H.H. Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Ruler’s Representative in Al Ain Region, today opened the Al Ain Center for Care & Rehabilitation, ACCR, to mark the World Autism Day, which is observed on 2nd April.

ACCR provides day schooling and full boarding facilities for children with special needs from the UAE and other GCC countries.

Sheikh Tahnoun, accompanied by Sheikh Theyab bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan and Sheikh Zayed bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Director of the Office of Ruler's Representative, heard an explanation from Nasser Ali bin Aziz Al Shereifi, Chairman and Founder of the ACCR, about the package of specialised world-class services provided to students between the age group of 4 and 18, suffering from mental disorders, autism and Down syndrome.

Al Shereifi said the health facility serves 200 students and adults from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait and Syria. The target categories are children with ineffectual hearing, cerebral palsy and autism impairments.

As a non-profit organisation, he stated that the new centre was planned to cater for up to 500 children on daycare and boarding schemes. Construction of the new centre has been designed to provide high-qualitative rehabilitation services along with international standards including; academic measures, paramedical interventions, prevocational, leisure and sports activities.
