Attended the launch of the first edition of the UAE Agriculture Conference and Exhibition in Al Ain
The first edition of the UAE Agricultural Conference and Exhibition in Al Ain, organised by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, will be held at ADNEC Al Ain from 28 to 31 May.
During the visit, Their Highnesses toured the exhibition halls, where they were briefed on the latest advances in smart and vertical farming, and modern technologies that enhance the efficiency of local agricultural production.
The tour included the National Agricultural Museum, which documents the development of agriculture in the UAE and reflects the UAE's vision for a sustainable agricultural future.
They also visited a number of stands of national companies and specialised farms that showcase innovative solutions to deal with climate challenges in the desert environment, as part of the UAE's efforts to establish a resilient and adaptive agricultural model that contributes to food security.
The tour included the Farmers‘ Fair, which showcases local crops and beekeepers’ products, as well as specialised zones such as the Youth Zone, which aims to empower youth and encourage them to innovate in the agricultural sector, and the Agricultural Technology Zone, which showcases smart solutions and advanced practices.
The tour also included the ‘Schools and Universities Zone’, designed to encourage students and researchers to explore agricultural solutions and participate in educational activities, as well as the ‘Community Zone’ for workshops, the ‘Private Entities Zone’, the ‘Startup Zone’, and the ‘Government Zone’, which offers initiatives and legislation that support farmers and the development of the sector.
His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan stressed that organising the UAE Agricultural Conference and Exhibition in Al Ain carries a special symbolism that embodies the UAE's commitment to strengthening the national agricultural system and expresses an integrated vision that makes agriculture one of the engines of sustainable development and a key pillar in achieving food security.
His Highness pointed out that supporting and empowering national farmers is a strategic choice that aims to enhance local production, achieve self-sufficiency, and develop the national economy.
‘The citizen farmer is a key partner in the process of agricultural development, and investing in modern technologies ensures the sustainability of this vital sector,’ he added.
His Highness Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan stressed that organising the UAE Agricultural Conference and Exhibition in Al Ain reflects the region's place in the national agricultural system by consolidating agricultural culture as a community practice rooted in local identity, pointing out the importance of concerted efforts by the public and private sectors to support and encourage investment in smart agricultural technologies and expand local agricultural production, in order to strengthen supply chains and achieve self-sufficiency in the food sector, in line with the objectives of the National Food Security Strategy.
Her Excellency Dr Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahhak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, delivered a keynote speech titled ‘Local Produce. A success story for the world to savour’, during which she emphasised the Al Ain region's 4,000-year agricultural history and its rich oases that bear witness to a living agricultural heritage, praising the foundations laid by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who set out from Al Ain to develop an agricultural sector enabled by science and technology for a food-secure future for the UAE.
Her Excellency stressed: ‘The citizen farmer is at the heart of this conference, and we endeavour to provide him with all forms of support, whether through partnerships, facilitating access to knowledge, or enabling him to showcase his products and expertise.’
She explained that one of the main outcomes of the event is to highlight the national agricultural potential, support national farmers, promote the use of modern agricultural technologies, raise the efficiency of local production, and enhance the position of local crops in the market, and stressed the importance of engaging the community to consolidate agriculture as a community culture.
The UAE Agricultural Conference and Exhibition is attended by 22 government entities involved in the agriculture and food sector, 40 private companies, 4 national universities, 20 startups specialised in innovative agricultural solutions, and more than 1,000 school students to benefit from the exchange of knowledge and expertise offered by the participating institutions and companies.
The integrated knowledge programme includes more than 75 speakers in more than 20 speeches, panel discussions and presentations covering all aspects of agriculture in the UAE.
The event also includes 35 workshops, including 11 specialised workshops for farmers and 24 for members of the public, addressing vital topics including the role of international organisations, legislation, youth, innovation, entrepreneurship and scientific research.
