Providing a sanctuary for more than 4000 animals, many of them face the threat of extinction due to urbanization and poaching, as well as a diverse range of plant and insect species, Al Ain Zoo work continuously to maintain flora in animal exhibits and in public areas, also tracking the insect species that live there.

With a focus on future generations, Al Ain Zoo welcomes more than 600 students, offers educational programmes benefitting 1,200 individuals annually, and welcomes around 45,000 participants at its school programmes.
The research centre offers around 11,000 environmental books providing a vast bank of knowledge and valuable resources to researchers, while the zoo’s many interactive activities offer hands-on experiences educating guests with the importance of protecting wildlife and biodiversity.
When it comes to tourism, Al Ain Zoo has become a leading destination offering amazing and internationally unique experiences, including the Al Ain African Safari; the world’s largest man-made safari.
Additionally, the Sheikh Zayed Desert Learning Centre offers deep insights into Abu Dhabi’s environment, heritage, and community, as well as being considered one of the first sustainable buildings in the UAE and awarded five pearls rating by Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council, as well as Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Award (LEED), by the green building certification programme in the USA.
New investments are paving the way to some of the first projects of their kind in the region, allowing additional economic growth for Abu Dhabi.
These projects include elephant safari, koala land, gorilla sanctuary, penguin beach, and sand cat breeding centre in addition to the rescue centre which is set up to help dangerous or confiscated animals to protect them and the community, as well as many other projects with a focus on nature and biodiversity conservation.
