With 100 days to go until the popular ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon, organisers have today revealed a series of exciting updates during a press conference hosted at the ADNOC Business Center.
Enhancements include a new, city-wide marathon route, passing many of the capital’s most prominent landmarks, and an expanded race village featuring many of Abu Dhabi’s leading sporting clubs, platforms, events, and initiatives. These initiatives are a result of a community engagement survey commissioned earlier this year, in which previous participants and members of the UAE community provided their thoughts and feedback.
Speaking at the event, Aref Hamad Al Awani, General Secretary of Abu Dhabi Sports Council, said the alterations to the event will ensure participants enjoy race day more than ever. “The ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon is already a very successful and much-loved event on the UAE sports calendar. After consulting our community through an extensive participant outreach survey, we have listened to and acted on their feedback. ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon has always been an event for the community, by the community, and we look forward to hosting an even bigger and better event this year”.
This year’s Marathon will again be hosted at ADNOC Headquarters, and the founding Title Sponsor has continued to work in close collaboration with Abu Dhabi Sports Council to further enhance the event.
Dr. Saif Sultan Al Nasseri, ADNOC’s Human Capital Director, said, “Our goal has always been to ensure that the ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon is an inclusive, community-focused event, that is accessible to all. The enhancements to this year’s edition have been introduced in response to the feedback we have heard and will ensure the continued safety and wellbeing of all participants and spectators, while providing an even more enjoyable family-friendly experience. As we finalise preparations for the marathon event, we invite our community to start and continue their health and wellness journey with us by joining us at one of our upcoming community races.”
During the launch event, representatives of Abu Dhabi Police and the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) also highlighted the ongoing coordination and cooperation of various Government entities to support this world-class event, while ensuring minimal disruption to the Abu Dhabi community.
The marathon event includes a 42 km full-marathon course; a marathon relay - in which two participants each run 21 km – a 10 km course; plus, 5 km and 2.5 km family fun runs.
Taking place on Saturday, 17th December, 2022, this year’s marathon will provide participants more time to prepare and train in cooler temperatures. The recently announced community race series also provides an opportunity for new and aspiring runners to experience a race environment, experiment with different distances, and enhance their technique and endurance ahead of the marathon.
The first race in the community series events took place on 3rd September inside Yas Mall and was sold out. The second event is scheduled for 8th October at Hazza bin Zayed Stadium in Al Ain and will include 3 km, 5 km and 10 km outdoor runs. The final run, held on 5th November at Yas Marina Circuit will also feature 3 km, 5 km and 10 km runs, along with the opportunity to run a 21 km half-marathon.
Registration for the ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon 2022 and its accompanying race distances as well as the two remaining Race Series Edition events is open via the official website: https://www.adnocabudhabimarathon.com.
Last year’s ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon attracted more than 12,000 participants of various ages and abilities, in addition to an impressive number of elite international athletes. Turnout this year – at what will be the UAE’s only full-distance marathon event in 2022 - is expected to see a significant increase in demand.
